Character Comparisons:

On this page, we're taking a look at how the characters changed between the Intro episodes and the finalized TV series from XEBEC. The Intro episodes were made in advanced to tease the 26-episode series that would release a year later and during that time, they ended up changing many plot points from the intro episodes and character designs. Near all the characters went through a cosmetic change, usually hair/eye color, but some went through some other redesigns. As you may know, Negima is known for contunuously changing the designs of characters in every medium and this was the start of it. Many character's designs were shifted from that of the manga and were given different color palates to better stand out, but it means the Intro episodes designs were more accurate to the original source material. In this section, we're taking a look at those changes.

2-A Homeroom Teacher: Negi Springfield

Negi had quite a few changes. His iconic green suit was once blue and it seems his read hair was more of a brownish red. In addition, his eyes were quite a bit larger in the original and his the lens of his glasses were transparent.

Mahora Advisor: Shizuna

Shizuna had a pretty major redesign. Her standard brown hair turned into an aqua-like color and her skin in turn went pale. There's no doubt her breast size changed as well, but that happens in every shot of the TV anime, too.

Nekane Springfield

Nekane went through a very small change. Her eyes were shrunk a touch, her eyes became a more vibrant blue, and her blonde hair was given much more color.

Anya Cocolova

Despite not being in the series much, Anya did go through quite a change. Her hair was turned from an orange/red color matching Negi's to a much darker hue, her eyes were shrunk down and went from brown to green, her ribbons went from green to yellow, and her hair lost a lot of volume.

No. 1 - Sayo Aisaka

Sayo went through a small, but noticable few changes. Her once faded design was shifted to look a bit more like a ghostly glow. Her gray hair was given a tad more light and color and her once dull gray eyes were made red.

No. 2 - Yuuna Akashi

Yuuna didn't go through the biggest cosmetic change. She kept her brown hair, but it was changed from a dark color to a much lighter tone and her brown eyes gained a bit more color.

No. 3 - Kazumi Asakura

In the TV series, Kazumi's hair was made a brighter shade of red, her brown eyes became a bit more colorful, and her once purple hair pins were turned to a standout green.

No. 4 - Yue Ayase

Yue's hair seems to change colors in each media she appears in and this was the start. The dark purple color was changed to a very vibrant blue and her gray eyes became a purple matching that of Nodoka's hair.

No. 5 - Ako Izumi

Ako's design really did not change. Her hair was given a slightly more silver hue and her eyes were made from brown to brown with a red tint.

No. 6 - Akira Okouchi

Akira's once light skin complexion was changed to add quite a bit of color and her black hair was changed to navy. Her gray eyes were also switched to a very dark blue shade.

No. 7 - Misa Kakizaki

Though she wasn't too present in the TV series, she went through a couple changed. Misa's hair was once a brown/red/purple hue, but it was changed to a deep purple. Her brown eyes were changed to gray and her clip was made a bit bigger and a standout red.

No. 8 - Asuna Kagurazaka

Asuna's eyes were always different colors, but the vibrancy was definitely toned town as was the size. However, her hair color was made a whole lot brighter.

No. 9 - Misora Kasuga

In addition to her orangish brown hair being changed to a dark brunette, Misora's once much brighter brown eyes were also dulled a bit color-wise, but also enlarged a touch.

No. 10 - Chachamaru Karakuri

Color-wise, Chachamaru remained the same, her colors were just brightened a bit. Her legs, however, were changed from white to a more realistic skin-color.

No. 11 - Madoka Kugimiya

Madoka is probably the one who went through the least cosmetic changes. The only detail to be noticed is her gray eyes were made the tiniest bit brighter.

No. 12 - Ku Fei

Ku Fei was once more a bright blonde, but XEBEC ended up changing her hair to a more golden hue. Her green hair fuzzies were shifted from green to black, but she ended up keeping the same eye color.

No. 13 - Konoka Konoe

Unlike some of the other students, Konoka's not too different in the final version. Most notably, her hair became a lightened brown and her eye color also turned to a different shade. It seems her eyes were tuned to an alternate shape as well.

No. 14 - Haruna Saotome

Haruna went through minor cosmetic designs. Her eyes are only a touch darker and her glass frames are now black rather than silver.

No. 15 - Setsuna Sakurazaki

Setsuna went through a few changes. Her black hair was changed to blue, her eyes went from blackish gray to brown, and her hair tie was made yellow from green. Also, it seems her light skin complexion was changed to match the other students and her eyes were made more narrow.

No. 16 - Makie Sasaki

Makie overall appears the same, but her hair was lightened quite a bit and her eyes were turned from brown to a much more red color. In addition, it seems her eyes also were shrunk down a bit.

No. 17 - Shiina Sakurako

Shiina's hair was once brown with a red hue, but it was changed to a much more vibrant red. Her pins were changed from brown to a far more noticeable green.

No. 18 - Mana Tatsumiya

Mana isn't all too different. Her black hair was lightened to an almost navy blue and her teal hair ribbons were changed to red.

No. 19 - Chao Lingshen

Chao-lin's hair gained a bit of a red hue in the TV series and her brown eyes were changed to gray. Also, she was given hair ties for her braids.

No. 20 - Kaede Nagase

Kaede's hair was originally a chocolate brown, but it was changed to a much different mud-colored brown. Her skin was also made noticeably darker.

No. 21 - Chizuru Naba

Chizuru went through very few changes. Her hair was given a touch more color as were her eyes and another curl was added to each side of her hair.

No. 22 - Fuka Narutaki

Like her sister, Fuka was given a bit of a redesign. Her orangish/brown hair was changed to a vibrant pink, her brown eyes were changed to a light pink/purple. Interestingly, in the last episode, both her and her sister's hair changed back to the near color of the original design.

No. 23 - Fumika Narutaki

Like her sister, Fumika was given a bit of a redesign. Her orangish/brown hair was changed to a vibrant pink, her brown eyes were changed to a deep purple, and her hair accessories were made smaller and changed from white to yellow.

No. 24 - Satomi Hakase

Satomi originally had hair that was a brownish black, but it was turned to that of a green, almost blue, color. Her eyes were given a bit more vibrant gray, her glasses were made bigger, and her hair ties went from orange to red.

No. 25 - Chisame Hasegawa

Chisame is one that went through a pretty severe design change. Her once orange/brown hair was made into an ivy green color, but her eyes only turned from a light gray to a slightly darker shade. Her hair ribbon went from green to navy. Interestingly, when she makes a pactio, her hair turns brown, bearing a much closer resemblance to her first color palate.

No. 26 - Evangeline A.K. McDowell

Evangeline's hair was originally a very yellow blonde and she had very vibrant blue eyes. Her hair remained blonde, but was much paler and her eyes were made green, still vibrant, but less so than her original design.

No. 27 - Nodoka Miyazaki

Nodoka seems to switch from blue to purple to blue again in each anime series. The original design showed her with indigo-colored hair and her eyes nearly matched in color, but it was changed to a more standard purple with dull blue eyes.

No. 28 - Natsumi Murakami

Natsumi originally bad red hair and hazel eyes, but her hair was changed to a light brown and her eyes to a dark gray.

No. 29 - Ayaka Yukihiro

While keeping the same basic color palette, Ayaka was made generally brighter. Both her blonde hairs and green eyes were made much more vibrant.

No. 30 - Satsuki Yotsuba

Satsuki ended up keeping her brown hair, but it was changed to a darker tone. Her eye colors remained the same, but her eyebrows were thickened a bit. Her hair ribbins were changed from purple to an ivy green.

No. 31 - Zazie Rainyday

Zazie changed quite a bit. Her skin was lightened considerably, her eye color was changed from purple to gold, her hair went from silver to a more white/blonde color and her face paint changed. The tear drop lightened and was made larger and the line over her right eye went from yellow to green.
