Negima! Magister Negi Magi
Mahou Sensei Negima! focuses on the story of young wizard, Negi Springfield, and his fellow friends/students as they overcome obstacles and their personal struggles. After graduating from a school for mages, young Negi is assigned to work as an English teacher at Mahora Academy, specifically, an all-girls junior high class in Japan. Almost immediately upon arriving, he crosses paths with Asuna Kagurazaka, a student in his class. Though the two don't seem to start off on the right foot, soon enough, they become close partners, constantly looking out for the other.
Over his time at Mahora, Negi not only befriends his students, as well as catches their fancy on occasion, but slowly unravels the seams of his past, inching closer and closer to solve the mystery of his missing father. Asuna and many others learn of Negi's history of magic and help him overcome the trials he comes to face.
Negima, while ultimately a shonen, starts off much like its predecessor, Love Hina, a romantic-comedy ecchi harem, but slowly begins to shape into a shonen a few volumes in. It is widely believed this was done due to publishers wanting the author to continue making harems like Love Hina, due to its massive popularity, but Akamatsu shifted it to focus more on fighting. With the positive reception, they allowed him to continue. That said, it does slowly cut the ecchi content out, though not totally removing it.
