Chapter 004: Touta's Clever Scheme
"Become my friend, Kuromaru."
A man, whose face is hidden under a mask reminiscent of a bird, speaks to Kuromaru, instructing the boy to kill Evangeline A.K, McDowell. He says she's a former shell of what she once was and if he was unable to complete this mission, Kuromaru could not return and would have to take his cursed body and go rot away elsewhere. Kuromaru agrees and calls this man "brother" and while he walks away, he hears other men wearing identical masks speaking about the boy's odds and regardless of whether he achieved or died, it was a win-win situation for the clan.

The flashback ends and Touta is screaming for his friend as he witnesses Yukihime stabbing her arm through Kuromaru's stomach and immediately grabs his caretaker in horror, all while panicking. She tells him to look at his new friend and they both witness Kuromaru's wounds closing up and healing almost instantly. Yukihime is appalled someone would send an undead after another undead.
Knowing his friend would live, Touta easily accepts his friend's magical healing and tries to take the chance to check Kuromaru's gender as he was still unresponsive. Kuromaru immediately springs to life and socks Touta in the face and Yukihime also has her run at punishing him. |

Kuromaru raises his blade to them again, announcing he must kill them. When Yukihime declares she's already won, he insists on fighting, so she offers a compromise: if Kuromaru is able to best Touta in a battle, she'll give him another chance to fight her. Though Touta tries to refuse, Kuromaru accepts her terms, disappearing from Touta's sight before planting a solid kick across his face. Before Touta has a chance to land, Kuromaru unveils a Shinmeiryuu sword technique across Touta's stomach, but Touta manages to deflect the blade with his hand. Instead of being upset, Touta is amazed by his friend's strength and abilities. He again tries to persuade Kuromaru to settle things peacefully, but he refuses, performing another shundo, but Touta manages to dodge. Realizing he wasn't going to stop, Touta decides to fight his friend seriously, but only under the condition that the loser of their match must do whatever the winner instructs. Kuromaru agrees to these new terms and gives Touta a sword to even the playing field upon request

They continue at it, a barrage of punches and slices to one another, their wounds quickly healing. Touta notes that his friend is strong and if he manages to slice through him again, he's done for, so he planned on using a move taught to him my his mentor. Kuromaru notes that though Touta lacks combat experience, his fighting instincts are impressive, but he plans to make the next attack the last. Mentally apologizing, Kuromaru slices through Touta's neck, knowing vampires are immobile without it, but Touta catches it in midair and attaches it back, claiming victory as Kuromaru's caught off guard. Touta slams his fist into Kuromaru's chest, sending his friend into the ground. Immediately, Touta panics, bombarding Kuromaru and Yukihime with questions, concerned if the former would regenerate. When Kuromaru heals, he begs to be killed, but Touta refuses and instead uses his win to request that they become friends.
