UQ Holder News: Crunchyroll Says Goodbye to UQ Holder Manga

Picture
Crunchyroll announced today that several manga series they had rights to would soon be leaving their platform. Unfortunately, UQ Holder is one of the IP's to be dropped. This falls on Kodansha, who is actively changing things on the distribution end.

This is the statement Kodansha gave on this matter:
"Due to forthcoming changes in Kodansha’ simulpub distribution program, we are suspending simulpub updates until further notice. For now, the best way to keep up with your favorite series will be by following the collected volumes. We at Kodansha are deeply sorry to those of you who have kept up-to-date through the simulpub format, and while we can’t divulge any details at the moment, we have exciting announcements to make about simulpubs in the coming months.
If you have been reading UQ Holder on Crunchyroll, please keep this in mind. It will stay live until January 31, 2023, so if you have been postponing your reading, you may want to pick it back up, though it is worth keeping in mind that the full series is not published on Crunchyroll. You can read the full article on Crunchyroll and see if any other titles that pique your interest will be leaving the platform.

Were you reading on Crunchyroll? As always, leave your thoughts in the comments! There is little news to report on these days, but regardless, we will always be here to report!

UQ Holder News: Volume 28 Cover!

Volume 28 of UQ Holder, the last release, came out some time ago, finally bringing the series to an end. We are a bit late with this update, but pictured above is the final cover design, featuring the same duo we started with. The back cover is the Negima cast, living out their lives in the UQ Holder timeline now that the journey is over. This volume received eight bonus pages that were not featured in the initial release, and while I will not spoil the contents of those here, I will clarify it is not an epilogue.

Volume 28 was released on March 9, 2022 in Japan.

It really is hard to believe the series is over and with this, news regarding the series as a whole will definitely be far less frequent. The author has since went into politics and while he proudly features his popular works, there does not currently seem like there are plans to continue this story.

What did you all think of UQ Holder? Did you feel like the last couple of chapters wrapped up nicely? What did you think of the ending the characters received? Let us know, one last time!

UQ Holder's Manga is About to End...

Picture
The last chapter of UQ Holder! is set to drop within only a matter of hours and we’re all eager to see how it ends. It does not look like it will be able to satisfy many questions left open from both UQ Holder and Negima, but we will only know once the chapter releases.

How have you enjoyed the manga up to this point? Are you still reading or have you since dropped this title? What would you like to be answered in the end? Who will Touta end up with?

Let us know your thoughts on the series and be on the look out for the last chapter!

~Also, woohoo! This is our 200th front page post!~

UQ Holder News: Volume 27 Cover Revealed!

Picture
The cover art of volume 27 recently came out and it appears that Evangeline in both her normal and adult form star on this piece of art. Interestingly, this is one of the only covers not to feature Touta in some way, though it is almost assured he will appear on the back cover. If you have been keeping up with the story, the art seems pretty fitting for this volume.

Volume 27 will release on November 9th, 2021 in Japan.

What do you think of it? Volume 28 will be the last, so there is only one more cover to go. Are you hoping any characters will be featured? Maybe you would like to see something similar to Negima's final volume? You be sure to let us know all your thoughts in the comments below!

UQ Holder News: Volume 26 Cover Revealed!

Picture
Recently, volume 26's cover of UQ Holder was revealed. On it, we see the three main contender to Touta's flourishing harem. It is certainly very different in tone when compared to the previous volume's art, but it definitely represents the recent chapters rather well. Sadly, UQ Holder is winding down to its end, so there are only a few more covers yet to come, so this may be the last with fan service, but who knows. We shall see.

Volume 26 will release on July 9th, 2021 in Japan.

What do you think of this cover? Do you have any wishes for certain characters to appear on future covers? What did you think of the recent chapters? Let us know, won't you?

UQ Holder News: Bessatsu Shonen Magazine April 2021 Issue Features UQ Holder on Cover!

It was announced a little while ago that UQ Holder would be appearing on the front cover for the magazine it is currently being published in, Bessatsu Shonen Magazine. If you know anything about these covers, it's a great chance for the manga's artists to show off brand new art of their characters in color, so fans tend to look forward to it. This time around, we have the main cast garbed in wedding dresses with Touta in the center, wearing his nee working attire. Ken Akamatsu also released a clean version of the art on his Twitter.

This will appear on the April 2021 version of the magazine, set to release on March 9, the same day that volume 25 of UQ Holder is set to release!

In the past, when the series appeared on the magazine's cover, it would include a special bonus item, like a Pactio Card of clear file folder, but so far, there is no news of a bonus being included, so if you do end up purchasing this, please be advised. You can pre-order now on Amazon JP.

UQ Holder News: Volume 24 Cover Revealed!

Picture
With the 24th volume of UQ Holder set to release in the coming weeks, the new cover has been revealed. On it, we see the human girls (and Isana and Honoka, which are not confirmed human one way or another) in some revealing attire. Surprisingly, this is the first time Shinobu, Honoka, and Isana have been featured on the front cover and gives us a good look at their intended hair color. Also interesting is the fact Isana's ponytail is drawn on the opposite side as it is normally portrayed, so it is up for debate whether it was intentional or not.

Volume 24 will release on November 9th, 2020 in Japan.

What do you think of this new cover? There definitely won't be too terribly more in the future, so what characters would you like to see represented? Let us know!

UQ Holder News: Addressing UQ Holder! Anime Season 2 Rumors

Picture
Recently, there's been several rumors creeping around on social media about a second season of UQ Holder. The first season originally aired in October of 2017 and following its release, two OAD episodes were released with a couple limited edition releases of the series' manga.

Since then, fans were asking for awhile, when is the second season?

A blog reported a a year or so ago that the second season was coming October later that year. Recently, many groups on social media are reporting on season 2 coming out this fall. Some even say the second season is already airing, but they insist the OAD episodes are part of the second season. The first OAD episode aired even before the first season of the anime, so this certainly is not the case.

So, the big question, is a second season coming?

The short answer? No, probably not. The series, while fortunate enough to receive OAD episodes, has been cursed with one season anime series, ever since the first season of Negima. There is no news about a second season coming out and frankly, the odds of one coming are slim. Remember, rumors always crop up, so check for sources before you get your hopes up! However, if Kodansha decides to release a new season, you can bet we will report on it!

Have you seen any rumors about UQ Holder or Negima? What are your thoughts on them? Please let us know!

Are you a fan of this new cover? From a quick glance, it seems fans are generally pretty pleased, but what do you think? Who should the next arc focus on? Let us know!

UQ Holder News: English Cast List and Clip Released!

The English cast list has come out for UQ Holder today and Sentai Filmworks also released a short clip, displaying a brief exchange between Touta and Yukihime.

With Sentai now dubbing the series, many of Negima's former voices were replaced, but Greg Ayres and Luci Christian will reprise their roles of Negi and Asuna respectively. Monica Rial also keeps her former roles and takes on the noble, Dana.

Some of the main cast is as follows:
  • Touta Konoe - Brittney Karbowski
Brittney has been a prominent anime voice actress for over a decade now, with many notable roles under her belt. A small selection of her roles include Ayu Tsukimiya from Kanon, Yuri Nakumura from Angel Beats, Wendy Marvel from Fairy Tail, and Black Star from Soul Eater. She also voiced Anya in the second Negima!? series.

  • Kuromaru Tokisaka - Kalin Coates
While definely fresh to the voice world, Kalin has appeared in a number of titles, such as Utakata Misogi in Chilvary of a Failed Knight, Taeko Kondou in Girls und Panzer, and as a young Esdeath in Akame ga Kill.

  • Yukihime - Heidi Hinkel
Heidi is new to anime voices, only with a single credit, as Seven in Princess Principle.

  • Evangeline/Kitty - Shanae’a Moore
With a select few roles from the past few years, a couple of her works include Beatrice in Princess Priniciple, Kanae Yajima in Aoharu x Machinegun, and Eiko Adachi in Amagi Brilliant Park.

  • Karin Yuuki - Molly Searcy
With having acted in over 50 roles, Molly may be a familiar voice, especially in recent works by Sentai. She has voiced many noticable roles, such as Centorea Shianus in Monster Masume, Isuzu Sento in Amagi Brilliant Park, Reiko Mikami in Another, and Akame in Akame ga Kill!.

  • Kirie Sakurame - Amanda Lee
While appearing in only a select number of roles since 2004, some of her work includes Akiho Shinomoto in Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card, Anzu in Hinamatsuri, and Peipain in Show by Rock!!

A full cast list for UQ Holder! can be found here and the OAD episodes here.

Merchandise News: UQ Holder! and Negima!? Blu-Ray Release (OAD's Too!)

Sentai Filmworks announced today that UQ Holder would be getting a Blu-Ray release in November, but in addition, so would the second Negima TV series, Negima!? by Studio Shaft.

UQ Holder will be released with all 12 episodes, with its Japanese dialogue with subtitles and English dub. It will include the same bonuses the Japanese release had (clean openings/endings, Japanese promos, advance screening) but what's most surprising is that the three OAD's for UQ Holder will also be included with the release. Never before have any of the series' OAD's been localized, so this is definitely a welcoming shock.

As stated above, Negima!? will also be re-released on Blu-ray and the Spring & Summer OVA will also be included with the release. There's no word on any special features at this time, but both the original Japanese and English dub will be offered.

Negima!? will release on November 6th and can be pre-ordered now.
UQ Holder! will release on November 27th and you can also pre-order it at this time.

Sentai seems to be putting hope into this series and with UQ Holder's OAD's be included, depending on the sale's, it could very well bode well for Negima's OAD's localization.

Are you excited by this announcement? Planning on buying either? Please do let us know!

Merchandise News: Negima & UQ Holder Bonuses in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine!

Picture
UQ Holder! took the front cover of the August 2018 issue Bessatsu Shonen Magazine, featuring brand new colored character art of Touta and Evangeline. While this itself is pretty neat, this issue also includes various series-related bonuses.

Included is a handout about the Negima stage-play and two slip-covers for UQ Holder volumes 15 and 17. The latter features another alternative cover of Evangeline wearing a bikini on a beach setting, but it's still quite similar to the original art. Volume 15 cover is a bit more interesting. Creator of the series, Ken Akamatsu, had previously spoke on Twitter about volume 15 of UQ Holder and had said it was practically the true final volume to Negima, as it wrapped up various major plot points. Because of this, the other slip-cover features a Negima-styled cover, also bearing the matching logo and volume number of 39.

Of course, these are purely cosmetic and offer no new content, but they're pretty neat nonetheless!

The magazine has already been released, so if you want to add these to your collection, be sure to snag a copy! CDJapan currently has it in stock for 574 yen, but be sure to look around and see if you can find it for cheaper!
Do keep in mind, this is Japan only, so these slip-covers won’t fit over books for most regions.

Are you planning to pick it up? Do you like these new covers? Let us know!

UQ Holder News: UQ Holder is Getting a Dub and Blu-Ray Release!

Picture
While at Anime-Expo, Sentai announced numerous upcoming titles that would receive dubs and near the end of their panel, they announced UQ Holder would be among those titles. It was also announced along with the English dub, the show would be getting a Blu-ray release.

This is the only news that has come out for far, so we should see a release date and possibly a cast list in the near future. In addition, Sentai Filmworks has also said they'd be releasing new merchandise, so there's a possibility of seeing new UQ Holder merch soon. We'll be sure to keep you updated as additional info comes out.

Are you excited about this news? Are you hoping the old Negima cast can return? Who do you want to see play the new characters? Let us know!

Are you planning on buying it? Hope another character comes out? Let us know!

UQ Holder News: Volume 17 Covers Revealed!

The covers for volume 17 of UQ Holder's manga were revealed today and feature Evangeline in a bleak environment.

There's not a very big difference in the covers this time around, the only differences being the placement of the logo, the lighting, and Eva's expression being a smile.

The limited edition will come with the manga, a pactio card, and a brand new OAD episode, "Karin Senpai's Secret That Can't Be Spoken", a story that revolves around Touta and Karin.
Both versions of volume 17 are set to be released on June 8, 2018.

UQ Holder News: Sentai Lists UQ Holder! as Favorite Vampire Anime

Picture

Sentai Filmworks regularly does these fun little countdowns, featuring a variety of anime centered about a certain prompt. Last week, they did a "Our Favorite Vampire Anime" and among their four choices was UQ Holder!

Uhh… who wouldn’t want to find out that they are actually a kick-ass vampire and their guardian is also 700-years-old? On top of that, who doesn’t want to join a secret society for people just like them? A whole new world opens up to Tota with Yukihime and brings viewers along for the ride, making UQ Holder! one of our most favorite stories of the supernatural kind.
-- Sentai Filmworks

Of course, this is nothing special, as it is just a way for Sentai to promote their shows a bit more, but it's interesting nonetheless and it's cool to see UQ Holder! featured (you can see the full list here).

 Merchandise News: Kirie Sakurame Figure!

Picture
FOTS Japan recently announced that they're working on a Kirie Sakurame figure. Not much has yet been released, but a picture of an early uncolored prototype. The design is the same as her appearance on volume 4 of UQ Holder's manga. Figure details, such as size and price should be released in the near future,

FOTS Japan releases mass-produced figures in Japan and their items are officially licensed, so this might be something fans want to consider picking up when it's released.

We'll cover the figure more when additional details are released.

What do you think of the figure? Planning on buying it? Want to see another character? Let us know!

Merchandise News: UQ Holder Anime Counterfeit Release

While this might be apparent news to some of you, we still wanted to cover counterfeits to those who aren't aware.

Anime isn't always the cheapest purchase, especially new titles. To make some cash from fans who want to own and watch a show, they'll sell fake products at a much lower price, and it seems UQ Holder already has such a DVD out. Negima's anime experienced the same, but there are reasons not to invest in these counterfeit releases.

Buying these not only does not help the creators of the series, but you're buying a shoddy product. The box art is ripped straight from promotional art and episodes, even the logo isn't official. Knockoff DVD's like this are known for performing poorly and many times, use illegible subtitles. All in all, as it's not an official release, you're bound to get shortchanged. To ensure you get what you pay for, it's best to wait for an official release.

Keep in mind: at this current time, UQ Holder has only been released in Japan as a box set, in Blu-ray format, without English subtitles. If you want to support the creators and get an official product, avoid this product and others like it. We'll be sure to cover the official releases.

Have you seen unofficial merch for the series? As always, let us know below!

UQ Holder News: Volume 16 Covers Revealed!

The covers for volume 16 of UQ Holder's manga were revealed today and feature members of the UQ Holder team. The one on the right is for the standard edition while the one on the left is for the limited edition release.

Unlike other limited editions in the past, which feature slight variations of the cover, volume 16 features completely different characters dressed in swim wear rather than normal clothes. The only thing they share are the same backgrounds.

This is pretty interesting and it may just be what they do for the next limited edition release.

Both versions of volume 16 are set to be released on March 9, 2018.
The limited edition will come with the manga, a Pactio Card, and a brand new OAD episode, "Eternal First Kiss in a Moment", a story that revolves around Touta and Kirie.

What do you think of these covers? Do you have a favorite? Let us know below!

Merchandise News: A Look at UQ Holder's Recent Merch

Like we mentioned before, we've been working on the merchandise section, our main focus to catch up on all the recent releases for UQ Holder. Today, we want to take a look at merch for the series that's been released in the past year.

Since the anime's release back in October of last year, more and more UQ Holder official merchandise is hitting the market. So far, it's mostly pins, keychains, and wall scrolls, but there's been quite a few surprises, such as the Mahora School Uniform. More keychains just came out a couple days ago, so there is a possibility we may see more goods submerge in the near future. We also have a limited edition of the manga coming out in March, so there's still more to come!

If you want more details about these products, simply click the desired picture and it'll take you straight to the page. We're still working on fill them out with more information and checking them over, but we hope to get those done very soon! We do plan to work on Negima's page afterwards. so please stay tuned!

In addition, at least two OAD are scheduled to come out, so there's still more for fans to look forward to.

Are you sad to see the anime end? Do you think there will be another season? Let us know your thoughts!

First, we have the Ken Akamatsu Art Book! Yes, you can finally own a book containing Akamatsu's various works of art over the years, including A.I. Love You, Love Hina, Mahou Sensei Negima, and UQ Holder! Whether it goes into art outside those series is unknown, but if you're a fan of the author, I certainly wouldn't miss it. This book is coming out October 5th.

Next is the UQ Holder Official Guide & Encyclopedia! While not many details have been shared about the book's contents, it should contain various info that was not present in the manga and I have been told it talks a bit more about the factions outside UQ Holder. This is coming out October 6th.

While the newest cover has yet to be revealed, the upcoming issue of Bessatsu Shonen Magazine will be printing and releasing an exclusive pactio card with the volume. This card is going to feature Kuromaru, but unlike the card that was just released, it'll feature the female version of the card! If you're one who collects the cards, you may not want to miss snagging one. The issue is set to release October 7th in Japan.

UQ Holder News: Sentai Filmworks Licenses UQ Holder!

Picture
It was recently announced that UQ Holder's anime is going to be licensed by Sentai Filmworks in English. The series will be available on Anime Strike.

For those who are unfamiliar, Anime Strike is Amazon's anime network for Prime members. With the additional price of $4.99 a month (after a 7-day free trial), members can watch series soon after they air in Japan.

While there is no word on whether there will be a dub or not, with Funimation not owning the rights to Negima's sequel, it's certainly possible that voices could change hands. However, many voices that starred in Negima's anime series have worked with both companies, so there's always that.

Are you happy Sentai holds the license? What are your thoughts on Anime Strike or the potential dub? Let us know!

UQ Holder News: Censorship? Is Germany Getting an Alternate Cover?

Volume 13 of UQ Holder was only released a month ago, its cover featuring a nude Evangeline. Of course, this sort of ecchi image is nothing new for the series, but when it is featured on the outside of the book, it is an entirely different story.
Picture
New Alternate Cover
Picture
Original Japanese Cover
What's interesting is just how different these covers are. So far, they've represented what was happening in the volume, but it seemed like the idea was abandoned and instead opted to go with a previous plot-line.

Negima are not estranged to censorship, as seen by the censored covers for the standard and limited edition releases, so it's not absurd to think they'd make a change. It's a strange choice to simply go with a completely different design rather than adding clothes to the naked character. What's interesting is that this "new" cover is actually the backside of Vol. 10's, but the design is not yet finalized and may change in the future.

Another interesting point is just how early they managed to nip this in the bud. Volume 10 hasn't even been released and this particular volume isn't due to release until March, 2018 in Germany, so it may have been obvious from the start that this cover would have issues outside Japan. There's definitely a chance this change won't just be limited to Germany either.

What do you think? Do you think other countries may have an alternate cover as well?
