Events: Official Mahora Inktober 2018!


​It's the month of Halloween, the spookiest time of the year; not only that, but the month of Inktober as well! UQ Holder News: Volume 18 Cover Revealed!

Volume 18 of UQ Holder was revealed recently, sporting both Karin and Kuromaru covered only a bit by towels. No limited edition this time around, so just the one cover.

Amazon Japan is also offering a free PDF version if ordered before the end of October 4th.

Volume 18 is set to release on October 9, 2018.

There has been no further news about future limited editions, but we'll keep you posted?

Site Event: Ala Alba Siege - UPDATE


​In case you missed the news before, we've been holding a siege movement in an effort for the localization of certain series that never reached outside Japan. You can find more info about it here.

Recently, Sentai announced both the dub and Blu-ray release of UQ Holder, but in addition, the OAD's will be included in the release. None of Negima's OAD's ever made it off Japan's shores, so this is promising, but we can't stop pushing quite yet!

While it's quite a feat to get UQ Holder, there's still hope that Sentai Filmworks will be the one to localize Negima's OAD series and film, but we need to keep trying! If you haven't already, please consider filling out Sentai's request form. It will certainly get the message across of what us fans want.

But remember, when it comes down to it, sales are a huge factor. The best way to get our message across is to not only fill out the form, but show Sentai we want more of this series by buying the Blu-ray releases. Both Negima! and Negima!? Blu-rays are up for pre-order, as is UQ Holder!, so please do consider ordering your copy now.

 Merchandise News: UQ Holder! and Negima!? Blu-Ray Release (OAD's Too!)

Sentai Filmworks announced today that UQ Holder would be getting a Blu-Ray release in November, but in addition, so would the second Negima TV series, Negima!? by Studio Shaft.

UQ Holder will be released with all 12 episodes, with its Japanese dialogue with subtitles and English dub. It will include the same bonuses the Japanese release had (clean openings/endings, Japanese promos, advance screening) but what's most surprising is that the three OAD's for UQ Holder will also be included with the release. Never before have any of the series' OAD's been localized, so this is definitely a welcoming shock.

As stated above, Negima!? will also be re-released on Blu-ray and the Spring & Summer OVA will also be included with the release. There's no word on any special features at this time, but both the original Japanese and English dub will be offered.

Negima!? will release on November 6th and can be pre-ordered now.
UQ Holder! will release on November 27th and you can also pre-order it at this time.

Sentai seems to be putting hope into this series and with UQ Holder's OAD's be included, depending on the sale's, it could very well bode well for Negima's OAD's localization.

Merchandise News: Negima & UQ Holder Bonuses in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine!
UQ Holder! took the front cover of the August 2018 issue Bessatsu Shonen Magazine, featuring brand new colored character art of Touta and Evangeline. While this itself is pretty neat, this issue also includes various series-related bonuses.

Included is a handout about the Negima stage-play and two slip-covers for UQ Holder volumes 15 and 17. The latter features another alternative cover of Evangeline wearing a bikini on a beach setting, but it's still quite similar to the original art. Volume 15 cover is a bit more interesting. Creator of the series, Ken Akamatsu, had previously spoke on Twitter about volume 15 of UQ Holder and had said it was practically the true final volume to Negima, as it wrapped up various major plot points. Because of this, the other slip-cover features a Negima-styled cover, also bearing the matching logo and volume number of 39. 

Of course, these are purely cosmetic and offer no new content, but they're pretty neat nonetheless!

The magazine has already been released, so if you want to add these to your collection, be sure to snag a copy! CDJapan currently has it in stock for 574 yen, but be sure to look around and see if you can find it for cheaper!
Do keep in mind, this is Japan only, so these slip-covers won’t fit over books for most regions.

 UQ Holder News: UQ Holder is Getting a Dub and Blu-Ray Release!

While at Anime-Expo, Sentai announced numerous upcoming titles that would receive dubs and near the end of their panel, they announced UQ Holder would be among those titles. It was also announced along with the English dub, the show would be getting a Blu-ray release.

This is the only news that has come out for far, so we should see a release date and possibly a cast list in the near future. In addition, Sentai Filmworks has also said they'd be releasing new merchandise, so there's a possibility of seeing new UQ Holder merch soon. We'll be sure to keep you updated as additional info comes out.

 Merchandise News: More Info on Kirie Sakurame Figure!

We mentioned this figure back in March, but details about the figure have recently come out and we wanted to share!

Pictures of the painted version were released and it looks to be the most detailed figure of both series to come out yet! It's 1/6 in scale (approximately 245 mm).
The figure is set to release in October later this year for ¥15,800.

Site Event: Ala Alba Siege!


With UQ Holder being aired last year and Sentai Filmworks recently acquiring the license to Negima, there’s been quite a bit of news for fans of the series in the past year. While the community may not hold the same numbers as Dragon Ball and Sword Art Online, there is very much so still a fanbase who would love to see more. 

What do we want?

Sentai Filmworks is willing to hear what the people want and we’re about to tell them. The effort we’re focusing on today is to show that there is a demand for these series. With both licenses tucked under their belt, they have the ability to provide a professional dubbed version of UQ Holder and there is a possibility we can finally get Negima’s OAD’s released overseas.

Specifically, we'd be focusing on these series:
  • Mahou Sensei Negima! Shiroki Tsubasa Ala Alba OAD series (White Wing)
  • Mahou Sensei Negima!: Mou Hitotsu no Sekai OAD series (Another World)
  • Mahou Sensei Negima! Anime Final movie​
  • UQ Holder! and its OAD's
We'd be asking for localization for Negima and a possibility for an English dub for both. This, of course, depends on the demand for the series and that’s where you come in!


How do I get involved?

There are a number of ways we can show our support and many take little effort, but together, we can make a big impact.

Fill out Request Form
Sentai does have an official request form where fans can ask them to consider acquiring certain licenses and for dubs. This is a very easy and very simple process. Please only fill out the form with this series to focus on what we’re aiming for. You’re welcome to fill out another with other series, but do try to keep in separated.

Social Media
One way to really voice our request is through social media, namely Sentai’s Twitter and Facebook. Send them series-based tweets and comments, fanart, etc. If you want to see UQ Holder get on Toonami, send them a request on Tumblr, Facebook, and it wouldn't hurt to drop the co-creator of Adult Swim, Jason DeMarco a tweet! However, do not do this with unrelated posts and do not spam their page.

Buy the Release
When it comes down to it, many decisions are made by sales, so if Negima’s Blu-ray sells well, they would definitely be more open for future releases for the series. Sentai already has it up for pre-order, so you can buy it from them directly here. All sellers will be listed below.
Spread the Word!
The best way to really make an impact is to spread the word around! Let the other communities know so they can get on board! The more the merrier! However, do limit it places that are related to the series. For instance, don’t spam SAO’s reddit.


Let’s go over a few helpful guidelines and tips.

  • The more fanart, the better! While all posts are great, fanart does catch the eye. You don’t need to be the best artist in the world, you just need heart! Please no contentless of low-effort posts!
 
  • Be kind, friendly, etc. We’re a nice community and we want to be sure to represent ourselves that way.
 
  • Don’t be overly demanding! We don’t want to be annoying, we just want to show we’re dedicated!
 
  • Do not bash on other communities or on any titles of this series. We may not always like the anime made for the series, but our goal is to show the love for it, so even if you don’t personally like something, let’s focus on the positive!
 
  • Remember, we’re focusing on anime here. Crunchyroll and Kodansha aren’t involved, going going to them or Ken would not be beneficial, so make sure you’re talking to Sentai about the anime. You are more than welcome to also share fanart and praise for the series with Ken Akamatsu, too and we encourage it!

Remember, we’re not doing this as a few individuals, but as the overall Negima/UQ Holder community. Whether you’re from Facebook groups, Reddit, forums, etc., we’re all in this together!  It’s easier to recognize a forest than a few trees!

 Negima News: Negima Stage Play Announced!

It was recently announced that Negima would be receiving its first stage play adaptation later this summer. In addition, former member of the famous idol group, Nogizaka46, would be cast as the starring role. 22-year-old Rina Ikoma will be playing Negi Springfield. Coincidentally, another former member of Nogizaka46. Yukina Kashiwa. portrayed Negi in the live-action adaption of the series.

I have the privilege to star as the protagonist Negi in the upcoming play 'Mahou Sensei Negima! Okochama Sensei wa Shugyou-chu!' It will be my first play after my graduation from Nogizaka46 and I think it is going to be a big turning point for me. Anyway, I am filled with desire to do the best I can. I am excited to see how we can express the worldview of Mahou Sensei Negima! I am set to play Negi-kun, who is a 10-year-old boy. In terms of appearance, I have 120% confidence to portray Negi-kun that can't be defeated by anyone. I know there are so many fans who have loved the original manga, so I will try to make the play wonderful with the entire company.

The play, Mahou Sensei Negima! Okochama Sensei wa Shugyou-chu!, or Teacher Child is in Training, is set to premiere on July 12-16 this year at the AiiA 2.5 Theater Tokyo.

 Merchandise News: Negima! Complete Collection English Blu-Ray Release

Sentai Filmworks recently listed their newly acquired licensed, Negima!, to their products as a Blu-ray release. This is the first time the series is going to be released on Blu-ray outside Japan.

This release is for the first season and includes both the English subbed version and the dubbed. While subject to change, the artwork is the same as that of the Blu-ray box set released in Japan last year. However, this is a standard release and there's no word whether that box set will make its way overseas.

It releases on September 18th later this year. Sentai Filmworks currently has it priced at at $58.99 and you can currently pre-order it here.

While there's not yet any word of Sentai releasing Negima!? or UQ Holder!, sales may very well determine what they choose to do with the series. If we're being optimistic, it may lead to the OAD series being released outside Japan. So if you would like to support the series, this is your chance.
